If you don’t get excited about the gospel, you’ve never really grasped what it’s telling you – Derek Prince
The true gospel is 100% good news. There’s is no bad news in the good news.
Any gospel that leaves you wondering:
- am I accepted?
- am I abiding?
am I pleasing to God?
is not good news.
Any gospel that leaves you insecure and uncertain is not good news.
Any gospel that leaves you with a sense of lack and emptiness is not good news.
Any gospel that demands you to clean up, straightened out and dried out to receive from God is not good news.
Self-Help or Christ-Help
What makes the gospel bad news, thus stops being the true gospel?
It’s when we believe our needs are met through our performance instead of Christ’s performance.
The Gospel comes for us to renounce our self-help programs in order to fully rely on the finished work of Christ because it’s the good news that Jesus Christ has come to do and secure for you and me what we could never do or secure for ourselves.
You are not accepted, forgiven, abiding or pleasing to God based on what you do or don’t do, but merely based on what Christ has done for you.
- you are warmly accepted
- you are fully forgiven
- you are forever abiding, and
- you are well-pleasing to God
This video is a great illustration why the gospel of grace is such good news! Several people step on a scale called the “Good-O-Meter” to see if they can get into Heaven, but only one person is good enough to get in: Jesus Christ.
Gratitude is the language of grace. How else can we respond then to say: “Thank you Jesus!”
