Astounding Truth About Your Relationship with God Unveiled (part 3/4)

Let’s start with a radical statement: you don’t have a relationship with the Father!

Imagine that a rich, royal relative of yours died. He left a jaw-dropping inheritance and even though you’re not a blood-relative, you are in his will to inherit his world wide estate. Everything that was his is now yours, including to be forever adopted in his royal family. What a day for you!

From having nothing, suddenly you’ve become one of the richest people on earth. Plus now you’re part of the royal family and share in all the privileges that come with it for free (Eph. 1:18-19).

Unbroken relationship

Through Jesus death and resurrection God also has left a jaw-dropping inheritance and you are in His will to inherit all He is and all He has. Everything that God is and has is now yours because you’re adopted into the royal family of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Gal. 4:7). All things are provided for you in Christ for victorious living, including an unbroken relationship with the Father.

Those who believe in Jesus Christ have freely received His relationship with the Father. Jesus has always been in an unbroken, perfect relationship with God the Father, and you have been plunged right into the centre of that very relationship!

Therefore, you in and of yourself don’t have a relationship with God, but you’ve stepped into Jesus‘ His relationship with the Father. In other words, Jesus Christ’s quality of relationship within the Godhead is what you’ve been placed into. You’ve been brought right into the circle of divine fellowship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Before time began, the Triune God decided to include you into the circle of their Family of love. Jesus has re-opened the way to the Father, gave His Spirit and has given you the astounding inheritance of all He is and all He has, including His own breathtaking relationship with the Father (Col. 2:9-10).

Jesus’ relationship with the Father is yours

Because you’re a partaker of the spiritual relationship Jesus Christ enjoys within the Godhead technically you in and of yourself don’t have a relationship with the Father.

Your relationship with God is God’s relationship with God.

You enjoy not your relationship with God but Christ’s relationship with the Father. Even more, the same quality of relationship Jesus enjoys with our Father is the same quality of relationship you enjoy with the Father.

Because you have the same quality of relationship with the Father as Jesus has:

  • Your relationship with the Father is without disruption.
  • Your relationship with the Father is never broken.
  • Your relationship with the Father never changes.

The quality of relationship you have with the Father – based on Jesus – is the same quality of relationship you’ll have with Him in a billion years. In other words, your spiritual relationship with your heavenly Father has always been the same and always will be the same. Despite what you might think or feel, this spiritual relationship will never vary or change. You’re standing on a rock solid foundation indeed!

Even though the same quality of relationship Jesus enjoys with the Father is exactly the same quality of relationship you enjoy with Him, you might not always experience this reality, but it’s true nonetheless. Remember, your relationship is based on spirit and truth, not experience (John 4:24, 2 Cor. 5:7).

We are, however, created to experience the bliss of enjoying God. All you need to do to experience the quality of relationship you already have in Christ is to keep renewing your mind (Rom. 12:2) and to practice His presence (Rom. 8:6). At some point we’ll go deeper about this.

To sum up

The astounding truth about your relationship with God is that in reality you in and of yourself don’t have a relationship with Him. Rather, you’ve freely received the relationship Jesus has within the Godhead which makes you have the same quality of relationship with the Father as Jesus has.  We renew our minds and walk according who we are in Christ in order to experience the fullness of the quality of God’s relationship with God which has become our relationship with Him.

Enjoy beholding the breathtaking family relationship between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit!
